How to use the console: start, stop, restart and send commands
Use the ESN panel console to start, stop, restart or kill your server, type commands, read errors and watch CPU, memory and network use.
The Console is the first page you see when you open a server. It shows your server's live output and lets you control it.
Power buttons
- Start turns the server on, using your startup settings.
- Restart stops the server cleanly, then starts it again. Use it after uploading new code or changing configs.
- Stop asks the server to shut down cleanly. For Minecraft, this saves the world first.
- Kill ends the process at once. Use it only if Stop doesn't work, because unsaved data can be lost.
Sending commands
Type in the box under the output and press Enter. Whatever you type goes to your program's input. For Minecraft that means server commands, like say Hello, op YourName or list, typed without a slash. A Discord bot only reacts if your code reads console input.
Reading the output
- Errors usually show up in red or start with words like
Error,ExceptionorTraceback. The last lines are normally the important ones. - Lines from the server host itself (install steps, "Server marked as running") come from the panel, not your code.
- The output starts fresh when the server restarts. For Minecraft, older logs stay in the
logsfolder in Files.
Usage graphs
Next to the console you'll see CPU, memory and network graphs plus your disk use. If memory keeps sitting at the limit or the server keeps crashing, your plan may be too small. See plans.
